bobsilvestri@bestofwny.com While we eagerly anticipate a new studio disc from Blue Rodeo scheduled for a fall 2013 release the band has generously opened the vault and have issued an eight CD set of remastered editions of their first five albums along a host of extra odds and ends. These five albums are some of the strongest from Blue Rodeo's peerless career and sound magnificent in the remastered form. The band's first album also gets a complete remix here as a bonus disc with new parts and vocals different from the original album. Another highlight is a complete disc of outtakes from the Casino album. It is unfortunate that the band didn't include outtakes for all the albums as bonus tracks. The outtakes include different versions of album tracks along with a host of new stuff including "If I Had a Heart", "Always a Place for You" and two early versions of "Photograph" and "Is It You" that would show up on future albums. An eighth disc features seventeen tracks of unreleased material and alternates takes along with a detailed history of the recording of the songs from band members. The box set comes with original artwork and booklet for each disc and expanded insights and comments from the band on the bonus discs. Those individual sleeves are packaged in a slipcase and box. Also included is a forty two page bookbrimming with photos and an essay about Blue Rodeo their origins and history of the band and a souvenir set of limited edition collectible postcards.
