Somehow during his very busy schedule touring the world and recording with Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band Nils Lofgren has released a solo album titled Old School. Lofgren has always been an in demand guitarist with his own outfit Grin and stints with Neil Young and his current gig with the E Street Band. The disc is dedicated to the late Clarence Clemons also a member of the E Street Band. Lofgren has help on the disc from Paul Rogers, Rochester native son Lou Gramm and R&B legend Sam Moore. Good stuff here includes the title cut "Old School" which finds Lofgren ranting about the current state of affairs in the world featuring Gramm on vocals lots of horns and swampy slide guitar from Nils, "Miss You Ray" dedicated to Ray Charles, "Amy Joe Blues" with Rogers helping out on vocals, "Let Her Get Away" co-written with Root Boy Slim and "60 Is The New 18". Lofgren slows it down with some nice guitar and piano on "Irish Angel" and nails it on "Big Dream" with its chorus of "dream big, work hard, stay humble and dance a lot" and a scorching guitar solo mid song.
