NIGHTLIFE CONCERT PREVIEW: WILLIE NILE
107.7 The LAKE 3rd Anniversary Party
DOCK AT THE BAY
Saturday September 16th
NILE ON THE LAKE….As the sun is about to set on another summer in Western New York it would only be fitting to do so with one last free concert event. The LAKE (107.7) along with the Dock at the Bay is proud to welcome “Back Home”, Buffalo Rock and Roll Hall inductee, WILLE NILE for a free show this Saturday.
The Buffalo born and bred musician has been enjoying the great success of his latest release “Streets of New York” which hit the streets earlier this year. This collection of fourteen songs is a brilliant vision from a superior songwriter who has been flying under the national radar for far too long.  The thought provoking lyrics are wrapped around a rollicking Rock and Roll band that aren’t afraid to get down and dirty. The songs all carry a powerful message that is only matched by their raw and potent delivery. NILE has been making waves in the LAKE rotation with the featured track “Cell Phones Ringing (In the Pockets of the Dead)”, an unnerving reminder of the 2004 Madrid train bombing, a story that is told by NILE with depth and conviction.
The record bleeds with the musical influences and attitude that have touched NILE. The only song not written by NILE, “Police on My Back” penned by EDDY GRANT, is a tribute to the late great JOE STRUMMER of the CLASH. The singer/songwriters talents have often drawn comparison to the master songwriter himself BOB DYLAN. While DYLAN himself doesn’t make an appearance on the record his son JAKOB, of WALLFLOWERS fame did, chiming in on background vocals on track five “The Day I Saw Bo Diddley in Washington Square”.
NILE can be best described as a musicians musician, one need only to listen to his peers to know that this is a must have record in your collection. Little STEVEN VAN ZANDT quips, “WILLE NILE is so good I can’t believe he’s not from New Jersey. Both BONO (U2) and LOU REED hail, “this is one great album!!!”, while LUCINDA WILLAMS says, “Willie is one great artist, and if there were any justice in the world I’d be opening up for him instead of him for me”.
This is sure to be one sizzling show to close out the summer this Saturday. So come out and rock the dock with THE LAKE (107.7) as they celebrate their third anniversary with a free listener party with the great WILLIE NILE (www.willienile.com). Also be sure to pick up a copy of the “Streets of New York” a jewel in the crown from the King of New York, WILLIE NILE.

NIGHTLIFE CD Review:
BOB SEGER
FACE THE PROMISE  ROCK AND ROLL NEVER FORGET.....This Tuesday will mark the return of 2004 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductee BOB SEGER as he is set to release his first new record in eleven years titled “Face the Promise”.
While everything has changed considerably in the world around us one thing that is “Still the Same” is the remarkable rock solid songwriting ability of SEGER; which he once again flashes on this new record.
From the very beginning the 61 year old father of two has always had his finger on the pulse of America.    His defining voice resonates within the stories told, and his yearning spirit is backed by an unwavering trust that is timeless. While “Face the Promise” will be his first assortment of new songs in over a decade, SEGER is still a mainstay on the Billboard charts as his Greatest Hits-Volume 1 is still charting in the top 200.
With his legacy secure the longtime leader of the Silver Bullet Band is once again ready to pull the trigger with yet another collection of future classic songs. The first single “Wait for Me” is a beautifully written heartfelt ballad that settles in nicely next to SEGER classics “Against the Wind” and “Mainstreet”. The record also offers up a touch of country cookin’ as SEGER is accompanied by PATTY LOVELESS on “The Answer’s In the Question”. Also, kickin’ up some dust is his mate from Michigan KID ROCK, the Detroit rockers throw down with a new spin on the VINCE GILL hit “Real Mean Bottle”.
The rest of the disc, produced by SEGER, is straight ahead Rock and Roll, hard hitting, passionate, and in your face. The first track “Wreck This Heart” is vintage SEGER. The prolific songwriter touches on the issues this generation faces as he unloads on track five “Are You”, and track six “Simplicity”.
The question has been answered with “Face the Promise”, SEGER once again has created a powerful record of relevance, a promise he has made and kept to his fans for over four decades.  The next question to be answered is are BOB SEGER and the Silver Bullet Band ready to “Lock and Load” and take to the road in support of the new album? The signs are pointing to yes but nothing is definite according to SEGER; “I love being around my kids, and you only get one chance to do that. Now that they’re eleven and thirteen they’re really branching out. I’ve never stopped writing music over the long break, so it was time to put out this record. As for touring the kids are dying to see me on the road, I’m not sure if it will happen or not. I do know that I’ve been chipping away at this album for a long time and I fell good about it”.
While fans await word on a tour BOB SEGER will make his very first appearance on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno this Thursday, he will also perform on The View on September 28th. The new disc “Face the Promise” will also be available on dual disc form; the second disc will be a DVD that will include live performances as well as studio footage from the making on the new record.
