“Grounded” -CD Review- |
By Bob Silvestri
bobsilvestri@bestofwny.com Why On Earth has released a six song CD titled
“Grounded” on which they serve a heavy dose of unpretentious guitar rock.
The band, Joe Spina (vocals), Sandy Belsky (drums), Jim Campbell (guitars)
and Jim Mangani (bass) mixes a range of influences (The Hip, Pearl Jam,
REM, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Cult, U2 and others) to achieve a subdued roar.
The in your face track, “Outta My Face”, deals with ones right to be left
alone and kicks off the disc. “Shaken” follows with some extraordinary
guitar work from Campbell. “Got That Back” features a mid song interlude
by the rhythm section of Belsky and Mangani before Campbell’s droning guitar
takes the song to its conclusion. “Too Late”, the discs most solid track,
features Spina’s impassioned singing and is a great ready for radio alternative/rock
track. “Nobody’s Listening” and “Revolution”, two more solid tracks, round
out the disc. Why On Earth produced the CD along with master knob turner
David St. Onge co-producing, engineering, mixing and mastering at his Digital
Barn Studios in Wilson, NY. Having been voted best alternative rock act
at the Buffalo Music Awards five times between 1997 and 2002 in addition
to each member being nominated in their respective categories since 1995,
Why On Earth are ready for bigger things. For more information go to www.whyonearth.net
