World
Container the latest release from The Tragically Hip features some of their
strongest material to date. The trademark twin guitar sound of Rob Baker
and Paul Langlois is present as is the thunderous rhythm section of Gord
Sinclair and Johnny Fay and the poetic caterwauling of Gord Downie is right
in the mix but this time out the band augments the sound with plenty of
keyboards courtesy of Jamie Edwards for a new twist to the Hip sound. Plenty
of passion to go around as evident on the tracks “Yer Not The Ocean”, “Fly”,
“Last Night I Dreamed You Didn’t Love Me”. A couple of tracks benefiting
the aforementioned keyboards include “Pretend” and the title cut “World
Container”. The stratospheric “The Lonely End Of The Rink” and the pop
sound of “In View” are standout out tracks also. Two tracks destined to
be Hip classics are the dark and sinister “The Kids Don’t Get It” featuring
one of Downie’s vintage vocal rants and the driving cynical lyricism of
“Family Band”. For more on World Container and all things The Hip go to
