The
Silos breakthrough came in the late Eighties /early Nineties with their
CD Cuba and they quickly joined such bands as The De Fuegos, The Blasters
and The Del Lords with college radio play and a cult following. While most
of those bands belong to music history, The Silos continue to make music
along such newer bands as The Old 97’s and The Jayhawks. The band has mostly
become a front name for Walter Salas-Humara, always the creative force
behind the band. On the bands new Dualtone release, When The Telephone
Rings, he is joined by Drew Glackin on bass and Konrad Meissner on drums.
The band shines on the tracks “The Only Love” with Richard Lloyd on guitar,
the somber “Whistled A Slow Waltz” and “Holding On To Life”. Also of note
are the bitter “Don’t Wanna Know”, “The First Move”, the title cut “When
The Telephone Rings” and the bong raspy vocals of “Take A Hit”. A great
and in most circles an unheralded band, The Silos When The Telephone Rings
is a richly textured CD. For more info check out www.thesilos.net
