David Verdi “Pray” |
By Bob Silvestri
Top Hat Records has released a CD from David Verdi titled Pray. The CD begins with the reverb heavy sound of “Sister”, a Neil Young and Crazy Horse sounding track. “Different Times” is a country-tinged number with an excellent echo drenched guitar sound throughout the song. “Billy Souls”, a great blues/rock shuffle, features Verdi’s low growling vocals, harp and some tasty guitar licks. The title cut “Pray” is an acoustic guitar lament about life’s short journey. “Hard Rain”, another outstanding track, is a slow moody number with a Richard Thompson like sound. “Hard Rain” has a shimmering guitar sound that is akin to raindrops falling in a puddle and sets the mood of the song. The back porch sounds of “Just Begun” sounds like Rolling Thunder Dylan. Harmonicas, acoustic and steel guitars and swirling organs mesh into a great song. The heavy acoustic guitar picking and Delta styled blues makes “Mudbelly” another great sounding song. “Ann Marie” an instrumental, and “Rivers” round out the disc.
