-Beautiful Addiction- |
By Bob Silvestri
bobsilvestri@bestofwny.com Singer songwriter and 2004 Buffalo Music Award winner Steve Roth has released a great new CD titled Beautiful Addiction. Well crafted songs and excellent musicianship along the lines of Dave Alvin and Peter Case make for repeated listening. Roth along with Armand John Petri produced the disc. Helping out on the disc are Bob Farmer on guitars, Chris Squier on bass, Elena Martin on violin, Jennifer Fenwick on cello along with Meredith Brown, Chuck Stock and Petri contributing on various tracks as well. The title track, “Beautiful Addiction”, features nice acoustic guitars and violin interplay. “Give It Up” and “Here In My Heart” are outstanding tracks and have rollicking country rock bass lines. The highlight of the disc is the cut “Cry An Ocean” with its tender violin and wounded emotion of Roth’s vocals. The last two tracks feature stripped down versions of the songs “What It’s Like” and “Give It Up” offering insight into the process and thoughts of the songwriters original vision of the songs. Easily one of if not the best local release of 2004, its clear Steve Roth is the real deal. For more information on Steve Roth and his great new CD Beautiful Addiction check out www.steveroth.net |
