Vini “Mad Dog” Lopez has resurrected the band Steel Mill and has released a new CD The Dead Sea Chronicles. Lopez was the original drummer with Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band and the band Child. On this one he dusts off eight songs from the beloved Steel Mill catalog. These songs were all written by Springsteen for Steel Mill during the late 60’s and early 70’s prior to the formation of The E Street Band and have the blues rock sound of that era. “Goin’ Back To Georgia”, “The Judge” and “Boppin’ The Blues” were all staples of countless Steel Mill bootlegs circulating among Springsteen collectors. One new track “(Whatever Happened to) Asbury Park” laments the rundown condition of this seaside resort in New Jersey where this music was born.
