Loud
is not necessarily good. Oh and melody in a song still goes a long way.
That being said, the double headline bill of New Found Glory-Senses Fail
show at The Town Ballroom in downtown Buffalo on November 1st 2007 was
one of the loudest concerts I've ever attended and I have seen a few. A
constant barrage of screamo pop punk nearly devoid of one melodic hook
in song that all blended together before the night was over. Not that it
didn't have its highlights. In my humble opinion the opening act Bedlight
For Blue Eyes stole the show with a smart twenty minute set of melodic
alternative pop punk. A tight well crafted bunch of songs made up their
all beef no filler set. Next up was Receiving Ends of Sirens. They sucked.
New Found Glory was up next and the full house exploded with enthusiasm
that continued thru their sixty minute set. A few of the highlights included
"Understatement", "Hit or Miss" and "All Downhill From Here". They also
played some interesting covers from their latest CD "From The Screen To
Your Stereo" a collection of movie soundtracks tunes including the Goo
Goo Dolls "Iris" a warped speed version of Dylan's "It Ain't Me Babe" and
Sixpence None The Richer's "Kiss Me". Senses Fail closed the show with
an energetic sixty minute set of ear blistering material. Front man Buddy
Nielsen's x-rated rant about, well let's not go there, and his t-shirt
with a rather graphic statement also best left un said, were a bit much.
But the band delivered with some good tunes among them "Rum Is For Drinking",
"Bonecrusher", "Choke On This", "The Priest and The Matador", a stellar
"Bloody Romance" and a set closing "187". For more upcoming shows check
