CD Review - By Bob

bobsilvestri@bestofwny.com Buffalo's own multi purpose musician and go to guy Roger Bryan has released a solo disc titled Engine Hum. Bryan is front man for one of Buffalo best and brightest bands The Old Sweethearts who has also done stints with Last Conservative and Mark Norris and The Backpeddlers. He steps out here for an astonishing eleven song set of mostly acoustic based alternative country tinged rock. Guests helping out include Eric Roesser, Jeff Pietrzak, Matt Smith, John Brady, and Jenn Sojka. The laconic "Handle It" starts the disc, "Ain't So Cruel" features some fine guitar work from Smith, "Soldier" rides a solid hook, "Gunmoney" is almost Tom Petty sounding and "I Know You Can Too" is a short piano piece. For my money Bryan is one of the best around. Check him out at www.myspace.com/rogerbryan or www.harvestsum.com |
