CD Review - By Bob
Silvestri
bobsilvestri@bestofwny.com Rod Piazza has been playing the blues for over forty years. On his latest CD titled Thrillville he is joined by his longtime outfit The Might Flyers (Henry Carvajal/guitars, Dave Kida/drums and his wife Honey Piazza on piano and thunder bass). Piazza is an ace harp player from the Junior Wells/Little Walter/Slim Harpo school of Chicago blues. Lots of good stuff here including "Hate to See You Go/Shake Your Hips", the blues shuffle "Sugar", and "Hoodoo Man Blues" featuring some nice piano from Honey, the horn fortified "Honey Bee" and the thrilling instrumental "The Civilian". My favorite tracks here include the break up blues of "It Can't Be True" and "Sad Hours" which invokes a 50's style stroll.
