bobsilvestri@bestofwny.com Rex Hobart and the Misery Boys have a new release tilted Empty House on Bloodshot Records. A true slice of Americana music or whatever they’re calling it this week, the disc features some outstanding playing and songwriting from Hobart and his band. You may recall Hobart’s name from a stint here in Buffalo (his wife was attending school here) and his many performances with his then band The Wrecks around town. After leaving Buffalo he reformed his previous outfit the Misery Boys (T.C. Dobbs/drums, Blackjack Snow/bass, J.B. Morris/guitars and Solomon Hofer/pedal steel) for this disc. The tracks “The Good Ain’t Gone” and “Don’t Make Me Break Your Heart” both conjure up Merle Haggard. The title of “It Won’t Be Long (And I’ll Be Hating You)” speaks for it self but comes across as witty and playful more than hurtful or bitter. “I Just Lost My Mind” is a guitar and pedal steel romp while “The Tear I Left Behind” has a nice Western Swing feel to it.
