Vonne’s new CD, Guitars & Castanets is a spunky mix of Tex-Mex rockers
in the mold of the legendary Joe Ely and Alejandro Escovedo. The eleven
tracks have a carefree wanderlust spirit to them and feature four sung
in Spanish. Some of the sidemen on the disc include Jon Dee Graham, Michael
Ramos and Charlie Sexton. Guitarist Robert LaRoche plays and co wrote most
of the songs with Vonne. She dedicates three tracks to artists who inspired
her music, Joe Ely on “Joe’s Gone Ridin’”, “Guitarras y Castanuelas” is
dedicated to Escovedo and “Sax Maniac” to another legendary Texas performer
Johnny Reno the first performer she saw live. The best song here is the
relationship heartbreaker “Long Season”. Other tracks of note include “Texas
Burning”, “Fiesta Sangria” and “Rebel Bride”. The disc includes the track
and video “Traeme Paz” from the movie Once Upon A Time In Mexico. For more
