The
long awaited new CD from Original Skin titled Sobriety has been released.
The nine songs mix alternative with power pop for a sound diverse enough
to please everyone from Edge heads to adult rockers. The band, Guillermo
Izquierdo (vocals, guitar), Eric Seymour (guitars), Brian Burd (bass) and
Chris Mattioli (drums) recorded the CD at Blue Summit Studios in Ft. Erie,
ONT. with Michael Atherton working the knobs. Jonathon Hughes plays keyboards
throughout the disc. “Wannabe” kicks off the disc with a hard edge guitar
sound. “I Can’t Help Myself” has a Tragically Hip sound as Izquierdo tells
his lover he will change his ways to please her. ”Sweetness” is a great
song that sounds like Elvis Costello with the Clash. “You Should Know By
Now” a brilliant power pop number with shades of 54-40. This is Original
Skin at their best with use of quiet verse and loud guitars on the refrain.
“Use” a melody, hook filled track is similar to the Foo Fighters and is
another good track. The lyrics of “searching for happiness, you’re bound
to get burned” appeals to the cynic in all of us. Rounding out the disc
are “Begin Again”, another power pop gem, “ A Kiss Before You Go” a slower
doomsday sounding track and “What Went Wrong” another Hip sounding track
which closes the disc.
Original Skin’s Sobriety is a refreshing
sound on the local music landscape. For more on the band go to www.originalskin.com |
