Since
the time I first saw The Old Sweethearts (Roger Bryan- vocals/guitar, Mark
Nosowicz-keyboards, Erik (Spicoli) Roesser-guitars and Jeff Pietraczek-drums)
in March of last year till the present, just about anyone I talked
to about music I had to rave about the band. Arguably, they have become
through some incredible performances (Artvoice Street Festival, opening
for Blue Rodeo at Thursday At The Square, the Harvest Sum Xmas Party and
numerous shows at Mohawk Place), one of if not the best in the area. Yes,
they have a Wilco sound to them but as I said before The Old Sweethearts
are peers not copycats of Wilco. Roger Bryan’s unassuming vocals and a
boozy country wobble to the music set them apart from the pack. “Careless
Love” with its opening synthesizer sound is mesmerizing. “Lay Down and
Die” and “Just Another Storm” are rockers while the gentle guitar strumming
of “Rocking Chair” conjures up the feeling of relaxing in one. “Love, Hate
or Anything”, “Beneath Your Shoes” and “Wasted Afternoon” all strike a
chord as well. The Old Sweethearts are one of the most promising
bands on the scene and their CD, In Regards to Your Affairs, one of the
best releases out there. Check them out at www.theoldsweethearts.com
