CD Review - By Bob Silvestri

Wilco
guitarist extraordinaire Nels Cline has released a new solo disc titled
Coward. Long sought after as a session artist Cline is an inventive
guitarist of the highest pedigree. Using a vast array of acoustic and
electrical guitars and a multitude of effects Cline crafts a sound that
is at times hypnotic and intense and other hushed and transcendental.
A good portion of Coward is made up of the tracks "Rod People's
Gradual Ascent to Heaven" clocking in at an epic eighteen minutes
plus and "ONAN (suite)" clocking in at a more reasonable seventeen
plus minutes. Other tracks of interest include "Thurston Cowboy"
an ode to Sonic Youth's Thurston Moore, "X Change (s)" and
"The Nomad's Home" that features some nice slide guitar from
Cline. Check out www.nelscline.com
