-commercialization, a war, our city- |
By Bob Silvestri
bobsilvestri@bestofwny.com nancyscandy (Mai Lien- vocals, Mike Christiano-drums, Dean Gionis-guitars, Bob Maulucci-guitars and T.J. Petti-bass) has returned after a brief hiatus with a powerful three song EP titled commercialization, a war, our city. The CD was recorded at the state of the art Chameleon West Studios with the esteemed Marc Hunt engineering while the band and Rich Wall handled production duties. This resulted in an amazing aural sound of stinging distorted guitars, crisp drums and bass and the beautiful vocals of Mai Lein up front in the mix. “Indian Summer” is a tale of despair, lost hope and love. “CNN” takes a very cynical view of today’s media outlets. While “City of Crows” features richly textured guitars and is a scathing commentary about the city of Buffalo. The band is able to take such serious subject matter and deep insight and wrap it in melody filled songs and still convey the message. The EP is a top-notch effort and another step forward for this constantly maturing band.
