This woman can sure sing the heck out of a song! I’m talking about Maria
Sebastian and her latest CD “Maybe It’s Just Me”. With the country sensibilities
of Rosanne Cash and the power pop grandeur of Linda Perry, Sebastian’s
new disc covers a broad range of styles without losing its focus, and she
is comfortable singing pop, country or adult format songs. The big guitar
and bass sound of “Free To Go” starts things off as Sebastian husky passion
drenched voice gives her lover his walking papers. “Concrete” is the perfect
example of the broad crossover appeal of her material, easily bridging
country and pop for a catchy song. “Madly” sounds like Pearl Jam with a
female singer and is a disc highlight. The fast paced New Wave sound of
“Joke” seems to channel Blondie at their best. The introspective title
track “Maybe It’s Just Me” is presented as both a full band track and as
a home demo mix. “It’s Nothing To Me” is one of the best kiss-off songs
I’ve heard in quite sometime. John Brady adds some fine guitar to the track.
“The Stars & The Moon” a bluesy cinematic sounding track is highlighted
by Doug Morgano’s exquisite fretwork. “The Staying Kind” and “Rollover”
round out the disc. For a longtime now Maria Sebastian has been one of
the area’s most accomplished singer, “Maybe It’s Just Me” furthers that
claim. For more information check out Maria’s web site at www.mariasebastian.com
