National CD Review - By
Bob Silvestri
bobsilvestri@bestofwny.com Austin, TX. based Mandy Mercier has a new CD out titled Run out Of Darkness. A mix of eclectic covers and some originals the disc kicks off with a cover of Willie Dixon's "Spoonful" before segueing nicely into a Mercier composition "Get There" that features the late Champ Hood on guitar. A sassy cover of Allan Toussaint's "Hello, My Lover" and the Sippy Wallace blues number "Special Delivery" score here as well. Other highlights include a duet with Ray Wylie Hubbard on the title cut, a cover of The Lovin' Spoonful's "Sportin' Life" and the Big Mama Thornton classic "Ball & Chain". The disc ends with "You Gotta Move" arranged by Mercier and the late Blaze Foley. Check out www.mandymercier.com for more information. |
