CD Review - By Bob

bobsilvestri@bestofwny.com The award winning and much beloved musical group Jackdaw has released a new disc titled Blackgrass. The pride of South Buffalo (sorry Jimmy) the new platter finds the band (Tim Byrne-vocals/guitar, Joe Davies-fiddle, Tom Jordan-bass, David Moore-pipes/accordion and more and George-drums) a bit more adventurous than previous outings and shows the maturity the band has reached in their playing and writing. A raucous opening set for The Dropkick Murphy's at Lafayette Square this summer showed the band's fury and featured many of the new songs in the set. The fourteen tracks were recorded at Sessions Studios in Buffalo under the direction of Chuck Madden. So pour yourself a Guinness and enjoy the tracks "Parade", "Shiny Black With Rain", "Annelise", "All My Life" and the instrumental number "Spaghetti Western". They also tackle Steve Earle's classic tune "Galway Girl" which has been a staple of their shows for years and is finally on disc. Mighty fine stuff!
