The
Highway Beautiful is the nom de plume of Buffalo singer songwriter Jason
Jurewicz. Following the trend of Dashboard Confessional and Chris Carrabba
and Bright Eyes with Conor Oberst, bands that are actually a front for
solo artists, Jurewicz under the name The Highway Beautiful has released
a debut CD titled The Things That Lights Can Hide. He handles most of the
instruments here and recorded the disc at his home studio. The acoustic
based pop rock has a pleasing polished sound while lyrically the songs
deal with love, emotions and dreams found and failed. Outstanding tracks
here include “A Grown Up Child’s Song”, “On Your Own”, “So Beautiful” and
“Camelot”. The instrumental “Landscape”, with its ambient noise and electronic
flourishes breaks things up a little bit here. For more on The Highway
