Blues diva Mary Haitz and James Anthony have a new CD out titled “No Borders”.
The CD kicks off with the jazzy organ and guitar jam of “Prison Blues”.
The heavy bass sounds greatly compliments the Duke Robillard sounding guitar
of Anthony. “Big Woman Blues” a shuffle number finds Haitz right at home
singing the joy of all the big beautiful women who need and know how to
love their man.
“Great Big Fool” is a live number
that finds Haitz in great vocal form and is a highlight on the disc. Perhaps
more from this live recording could be made available in the future. “I
Saw You” deals with a two timing man who gets caught cheating on his woman.
“Enough Is Enough”, another blues shuffle finds Anthony handling the vocals.
The lyrics will appeal to all working class folks as Anthony details his
exasperation with taxes, working and tough times in general. Anthony also
handles vocals on another stand out track “Cheatin’ Clothes”. His ferocious
slide playing and lyrics about a woman doing the cheating this time, giving
an equal take on the games lovers play.
A winning combination of Haitz’s vocals
and Anthony’s guitar playing makes this stand out from some of the generic
blues offerings out there. For more on Mary Haitz go to www.maryhaitz.com |
