-Last Exit to Happyland- |
CD Review - By Bob Silvestri
Last Exit to Happyland the latest release from Western New York native and current resident of Austin, TX Gurf Morlix is a somber low keyed affair that demands your attention. With a bent for lyrical reflection and musical perfection as a listener you know that every nuance Morlix adds to the song means something and you don't want to miss any of it. The Buffalo Music Hall of Fame member plays most of the instruments here but gets help from the mighty Rick Richards on drums and Patti Griffin, Barbara Kooyman and Ruthie Foster on vocals. Some of the stand out tracks here are "One More Second", "Walkin' to New Orleans", "I Got Nothing" and "Voice of Midnight". My personal faves are "Music You Mighta Made" a somber tribute to the late Blaze Foley and "Drums from New Orleans" written with George Carver another Western New York native and Austin resident about growing up in Buffalo listening to WKBW and Hound Dog Lorenz and how it sparked his love of music. Another great disc from Gurf Morlix. Check it out at www.gurfmorlix.com |
