With
a room that was filled to capacity (over 2200 tickets were sold) and with
anticipation The Goo Goo Dolls closed out 2006 with a well received set
at The Events Center at The Seneca-Niagara Casino in Niagara Falls, NY
on December 29th. Out on the road since the spring of 2006 supporting
their latest release Let Love In the band turned in a tight fast paced
seventeen song set clocking in at around seventy five minutes. From the
opening notes of “Stay” until the encore of Supertramp’s “Give A Little
Bit” the band had the crowd on their feet for the entire show.
For over twenty
years The Goo’s have been performing on stages all over the world yet it
always seems special when they return home to perform. With references
ranging from family to The Chippewa Strip to old friends in the crowd and
with the somewhat intimate setting of the Events Center it felt like Old
Home Days at The Continental, one of the band’s earliest venues. While
the sound is more polished than the early days the band still professes
a certain sloppy sound at times reminiscent of their idols and mentors
The Replacements and Paul Westerberg.
This evening
found Robby prowling and prancing from one end of the stage to the other,
Johnny preening to the crowd and Mike pounding away on the drums. They
played the hits of course including “Naked”, “Slide”, “Iris”, “Broadway”
and “Black Balloon”. “Smash”, “Tucked Away” and a frenzied “January Friend”
stood out as well. Cuts from the new disc featured “Better Days” the title
cut “Let Love In’ and “Become”. A great way to ring out 2006 and to rock
forward to 2007 and another Goo year. (Bad pun I know) For more info on
