If
your tastes are more to the tasty twangy sounds of Alternative country
or Bluegrass and not the slick saccharine of Nashville then Flatbed is
for you. The band features one of Western New York's most versatile and
beautiful voices in Joelle Labert and some mighty fine players themselves
with Derek Bassett-guitar/vocals, John Brady-mandolin/dobro, Ted Chubbuck
Jr.-drums, Daniel Smith-guitars and Michael Tinsmon-bass. On their new
nine song CD they put on their traveling shoes for the lead off track "40
Miles", add some tasty guitar licks on "Ride", do the two step on "Roulette",
add a jazzy swagger to "Liver & Kidneys" and take you home on "Big
Winds Blow". With a little Flying Burrito Brothers, a little Grateful Dead,
some Emmylou Harris and following their muse Flatbed is an enjoyable listen.
