The blues-rock power trio the Filter Kings have released a self-titled
CD. The band features one of the most exciting guitarist in America today,
Mark Krurnowski, and the rock solid rhythm section of Cave Wilson on drums
and Brian Burd on bass. Their sound is in the tradition of Stevie Ray Vaughan
and Double Trouble, Jimi Hendrix Experience and ZZ Top, pre cheese sound.
Krurnowski has continually placed in the top finalists in the WNED North
American Guitar Competition. The CD has a live one take feel and most of
the songs have a comfortable familiarity about them. Most of the songs
are staples of the bands live set also. The disc kicks off with “King of
the Hill”, a great story song about a couple of desperate wayward losers.
Monster guitar hooks; thumping bass lines and slap snare shots compliment
this outstanding track. The funky “She Don’t Mind” is the story of a very
forgiving woman who lets her man slide for some of his minor faults. The
slow blues of “Forrest Hill” is brought to life with crisp guitar notes
and brushed snare drums. The rolling Texas blues sounds of “Finely Tuned
Machine” and the instrumental “Swimmin’ In Gelatine” are outstanding tracks
as well as the rocking “Two Can Play That Game”. The slow burner “Things
You Said” is another outstanding track. Krurnowski exhibits great tone
control and clear crisp playing throughout the song. “Sweet Little Angel”
adds some twang to the opening bars before turning into a percolating blues
romp. For more on The Filter Kings go to www.filterkings.com
Mark Krurnowski also has a solo instrumental disc available titled Suspended
In Mid Air that also feature Cave Wilson and Brian Burd that’s more progressive
jazz style than The Filter Kings music. Highlights include “The Funk Walk
(Remix ’02)”, “Green Tea Groove”, “Taking Flight”, “Reflections”, “Texas
Toast” and “Grasshoppin’ Blues”. For more on Mark Krurnowski check out
