By Bob Silvestri
Colleen Williams is a smooth effortless singer who wraps her voice around
each note she sings. On her latest self-titled release Williams shows her
talent on a range a songs from standards, to Sting, to new original songs
written by Bobby Jones. All the songs benefit with great arrangements from
Jones, especially the standards which sound fresh and vibrant. Her band
made up of Bobby Jones, Jim Kurzdorfer and Jeff Meister is nothing short
of incredible. Guest artists include Tony Scozzaro, Tommy Z, Jeff Jarvis,
Bobby Militello, Steve Curry, Jerry Livingston, Wendell Rivera, George
Kane, Dave Kayne and The Hit Men Horns. “It’s Probably Me”, a Sting/Eric
Clapton collaboration, starts the CD and features Jeff Jarvis on flugelhorn.
Tommy Z lends a nice touch to “Georgia On My Mind” while Bobby Militello
adds his touches on alto sax to “Call Me Irresponsible”. Williams does
a great run through on Gershwin’s “Someone To Watch Over Me” with its up-tempo
arrangement from Jones. Her marriage of romance and song is best shown
on all four Jones penned originals. “For Awhile”, “Until You Come Back”,
“Just Be In Love” and “Perfect Love” show this partnership of writer and
performer to be in tune with each other. For more information on Colleen
