Chris
Hillman states in the liner notes to his latest CD, The Other Side, “that
it is one of the most enjoyable projects of my entire career.” That comes
from the man who has been involved with some of the best bands in music
history. From his days with The Byrds, The Flying Burrito Brothers, Manassas
and The Desert Rose Band to name a few to an eclectic solo career he has
more than left his mark on music. On The Other Side he reworks some of
that earlier music with some new songs for a truly enjoyable disc. Working
with producer and multi instrumentalist Herb Pederson along with bassist
Bill Bryson from his days in The Desert Rose Band and others including
Jennifer Warnes the music verves towards a bluegrass sound. Highlights
include the seminal Byrds tune “Eight Miles High” done with acoustic guitars
and mandolins and from his Desert Rose days “Missing You” one of his best
written tunes. Other tracks to check out include “The Water Is Wide” with
superb vocals from Jennifer Warnes and “The Wheel”. For more on Chris Hillman
