bobsilvestri@bestofwny.com Back in the days of the legendary Austin blues club Antone’s, Angela Strehli along with Clifford Antone gave many up and coming blues artists a place to hone their talents. A premier blues artist in her own right she has returned with a new CD titled Blue Highway. The ten tracks are in the traditional Texas blues genre and features guests Maria Muldaur, Marcia Ball, a frequent collaborator of Strehli’s and Stevie Ray Vaughan who got his start at Antone’s Blues Club. The disc starts by celebrating the legendary club with the track “Austin’s Home Of The Blues”. The title track “Blue Highway” started as a track for her longtime friend Marcia Ball but instead turned into a song about Ball. Maldaur adds harmonizing vocals with Ball on the track as well. Strehli also wrote the track “SRV” for her sadly missed friend Vaughan while the track “C.O.D.” is from Vaughan’s historic Carnegie Hall concert from 1985 in which Strehli performed as background vocalist. Other highlights include “Slipped, Tripped and Fall In love”, “I Don’t Know Why” and “Always In Love”.
