Al
Green sure does smile a lot. During the entire course of his ninety minute
show at the Events Center at The Seneca-Niagara Casino in Niagara Falls,
NY on July18, 2008 his smile was omnipresent. And the full house ate it
up as he danced, strutted, testified and sang his you know what off. His
nearly forty year career has been a millstone of exuberant highs and crushing
lows. From chart topping hits to drug addiction that nearly ended his career
and life Green found refuge in the spiritual side of things and turned
his career and life around. Green is currently out touring behind his critically
lauded new CD Lay It Down of which he showcased songs. The songs from the
new disc sound just as powerful as his hits from the '70's and fit seamlessly
among the hits. After an opening vamp from his sublime band Green hit the
stage to rapturous applause and passed out long stemmed roses to the ladies
as he sang "I Can't Stop" followed by a stunning "Let's Get Married" that
showed Green still posses one of the greatest voices of all time. Some
of the best moments of the evening were on the spirituals "Amazing Grace"
and "Everything's Gonna Be Alright" and those monster hits from the 70's
including "Let's Stay Together", "Here I Am (Come and Take Me) and an amazingly
soulful "Tired of Being Alone". A medley of soul classics including brief
takes of "Sugar Pie Honey Bunch", "My Girl", and "What a Wonderful World",
"Bring it on Home" and "Sitting on The Dock of the Bay" was a hit with
the crowd also. A true legend and the consummate showman it's great to
have Al Green back entertaining again. For more great shows coming to the
