CREDIT CARDS
By Joseph R. Simpson C.P.A.

Credit cards, they are the heart of evil. Ask a financial advisor and they will tell you to rip them up, cut them in pieces, burn them, do whatever you need to do to get them out of your life forever.
It’s no secret that credit cards are dangerous. It’s easy to become overwhelmed in a sea of plastic. Just open up your wallet, how many do you have? Now ask yourself honestly, why to you have them?
Take department store cards, they are pretty much losers all the way around. You probably ended up with one because you got a discount on something you bought., or you took advantage of a deferred billing offer. But these cards offer nothing more than high interest rates and temptation to buy more.
Go out to your mailbox on any given day and you will probably find a few more offers. It can be a time consuming task just to keep track of all these balances, and to avoid paying absurd late fees. All those individual bills also will add time to your monthly  billing paying and clutter to your kitchen countertops.
But it’s possible to use credit cards to your advantage. You will need to have two, no more no less. . One you will select for the benefits it offers, like cash back or airline miles. That’s the one to use for all your purchasing activities. Not only will you reduce your need to carry cash,  you will have a nice little record of most of your discretionary spending in one place. The other one you select for interest rate, just in case you have to carry a balance once in a while.
Need help selecting the right card, go to a site like cardweb.com. Contrary to popular belief you can live peacefully with plastic.
